Bollywood’s renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has yet again found himself in deep trouble, this time not with Karan Johar, but with the income tax department.
Apparently, the filmmakers office in Andheri Mumbai has been raided yesterday afternoon, and it is heard that the raid took place for several hours, with the officials staying back till 10:30 pm. They landed in the former’s office at 2 pm.
RGV came under inspection when it was discovered that the filmmaker’s name did not show up on the list of film personalities who have been issued notices over the past year for suspected tax evasion. Also RGV has no records of his various production houses, on paper.
Says a source, “There is no record of his production houses being registered anywhere, let alone Hyderabad.”
Talking to a daily, a tax official said RGV is on the the department’s radar and that they will scrutinize each of RGV’s project “to find out the amount of service and professional tax he has evaded”.
Not very long ago, producer Ekta Kapoor’s office was raided, after she was accused for tax evasion.
