Listing out the ten longest duration films of Hindi cinema wasn’t a difficult task. Making a film stretching over three hours and keeping the audience glued to their seats is no mean feat. It was only Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker that had two intervals as it was the showman’s most ambitious project which unfortunately bombed. However, this movie was re-released after his death and it was a big hit. When it comes to the box-office collections, it has been a mixed bag for these films mentioned below –
Movie | Release Year | Running Time | Director | Budget | Box office |
LOC: Kargil | 2003 | 4hrs 15mins | JP Dutta | 40 Crores | 68.93 Crores |
Sangam | 1964 | 3hrs 52mins | Raj Kapoor | N/A | 4 Crores(1964) |
Mera Naam Joker | 1970 | 3hrs 44mins | Raj Kapoor | N/A | N/A |
Lagaan | 2001 | 3hrs 44mins | Ashutosh Gowarikar | 25 Crores | 57.8 Crores |
Salaam-E-Ishq | 2007 | 3hrs 36mins | Nikhil Advani | 35 Crores | 30 Crores |
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham | 2001 | 3hrs 30mins | Karan Johar | 40 Crores | 117 Crores |
Swades | 2004 | 3hrs 30mins | Ashutosh Gowarikar | N/A | 22 Crores |
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero | 2005 | 3hrs 28mins | Shyam Benegal | 30 Crores | 24 Crores |
Waqt | 1965 | 3hrs 26mins | Yash Chopra | N/A | N/A |
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun | 1994 | 3hrs 26mins | Sooraj Barjatya | 4.2 Crores | 135 Crores |
Biggest hit in the above list of movies was Hum Aapke Hain Kaun which was made with a modest budget but was a big hit at box office with a huge 135 crores collection. The biggest flops were Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero and Salaam-E-Ishq. My personal favorite amongst them are Waqt and Mera Naam Joker. Lagaan however is a bit behind the top 2. What are your personal favorites amongst them?
